The Blue November MicroFilmFest has a tradition of working hand in hand with the people, organizations and businesses of the arts community. The Festival has maintained a standard of supporting the art of cinema and the creative vision of the director, the support of art in all forms and the tradition of a free festival for artists, filmmakers and patrons.
This coming November, the Green Bean Coffee House will play host to the further development of the Blue November MicroFilmFest in Seattle. We have expanded yet again, and this year will include a broader reach into supporting charity and the Greenwood neighborhood. Working together, like minds have coordinated an event that will exhibit unique cinema, local artists and Seattle musicians. The tradition continues.

Magical Conciousness is the state in which tea leaves are read, curses are cast, goals are scores, poems are written...
Bret has been out of contact until the past few days. My thoughts are with him as life punches him in the gut! The good news comes, first and foremost, from the fact that he has picked himself up off the ground, and is working his end for the production of "Solid", my first feature film. The final scenes will be shot this Autumn.
I will take the final cartridge of film for "The Pass" for developing Thursday. When the edit is made, the film will be transferred alongside "In the Corner of Myself" and "Colorswitch".
The only bad news is that "Water from the Mountain" will not be ready by June 30th for the Kurosawa Short Film Competition. In fact, I will probably have to wait until August for the funds to develop and transfer the film. I would like to say thanx to Joe (Sid) and Mallory for their patience.
That's it! I am scraping by, but finding a way to push forward as always. Until next time...

Tonight, I took another look over the footage to replace a few splices that I have been unhappy about. As I am winding back and forth, I noticed a scene in which Dylan walked through the door of the Green Bean, as a logo on a truck appears clearly in the background cut, cut, splice.
The splices are delicate, and a steady hand and a feel for the maneuver are needed. It doesnt always go well, but I am happy with the cuts I have made.
The next step is one that brings me to closer to another goal, the completion of my other project, Water from the Mountain. Plans have been made for this Saturday, to shoot the final scene needed for The Pass, preceded by the second to last shoot for WFTM, which will take place at Shilshole Beach.
This raises my excitement, as not only three new films reach fruition, but three new Super 8 films. With the completion of the final two, Colorswitch will finally join them as all are transferred.

One day it'll make all sense...
A great many things have happened since my last visit to blogland. I have regained my status as lone, roving wanderer, a nod to my Bohemian self. Ive walked the downtown streets and captured art and circumstance, I spoke with the homeless and saw hope in spite of tragedy, and I found the flicker of Seattle. I have been renewed only to grow weary and uninspired again sigh. The path of the artist
I attempted the RPM Challenge, and almost succeeded. I changed from a miked amp configuration to a direct application and recorded a dissonant orchestral opus of thirty-seven minutes it was then I realized that I forgot to change the input setting on the VCR (on which the recording was to be captured), and thus, nothing was recorded. In addition, my old relic of a drum machine blew up on me. Despite this challenge, I will continue to record.
I still have not viewed the footage from The Pass, my latest Super 8 short film. This will come in the next few days. My idea of cranking out film after film is not going as swimmingly as I had hoped. Nonetheless, my goal of having this new film complete by month end is sound, and I look forward to seeing the results.
I have not heard from Brett despite repeated attempts to contact him. First and foremost, I am worried about his well-being. On the other hand, this does not bode well for Solid. As money falls into place, I can shoot the final scenes. After that, I dont know what to do.
Fae is in Tulsa, dealing with family misfortune that is slowly becoming positive. I search the Net, trying to lay down a foundation of friends and colleagues and yet my projects dont quite seem big enough to occupy their time as of yet. I need a good interpersonal drama to stimulate their talents. My problem is that I am so visual.
I took my reel to reel into NW Audio yesterday. After Fed-Ex busted the hell out of it, these guys will be able to fix it, and then I can record my music and poetry the way I want. It made me reflect on how much of a dying trend these skills and the related equipment have become. Even with the resurgence of the old equipment, the newbies are still liable to throw the device away if it is broken rather than have it fixed. I am doing the same, and looking into a new drum machine, although I am still keeping the old.
After that, I went down to Green Bean and bought some fresh coffee. Ahhhh, the smell is so great, I want to eat it! I had a bit of lunch and a cup of coffee, and then I made my way to Shilshole. I taped a few scenes and helped a stranded motorist before returning to the Bean. Now I sit, disillusioned and tired, as usual. I have so many things to do. My immediate struggle is how to promote the festival in its own community.

As predicted, I did not record anything for the RPM Challenge, nor did I submit, nor did I register. I hate deadlines, so I approached this entire venture with a carefree attitude. I enjoy things better that way.
What I did accomplish is a performance that was almost captured on tape. I forgot to switch the inputs on the VCR, so my performance was lost.
My set-up for direct recording is as such:
bass signal - Boss DS-1 distortion as preamp and effect sent into DOD Phaser then into the first channel panned to the 10 O'Clock postion
vocal - old Radio Shack mic into Channel 2 w/o preamp and panned to the 2 O'Clock position
drum machine - old Boss DR-55 into Channel 3, panned at 12 O'Clock
The stereo output of the Phaser pedal is converted from 1/4" to RCA and routed into on of the two AUX inputs on the Realistic mixer I am using. The other input receives a signal from my Sony MP3/CD player which is converted to 1/4", routed through an old DOD Chorus pedal, then converted to an RCA connection.
The result is not very dynamic, but unique. I set it up again today and recorded onto the VCR. Although I am not 100% on the levels yet, it gave an interesting sound. For those of you unfamiliar with utilizing the VCR for audio, despite its lack of video quality, VHS tape is great for analog audio.
I will undoubtedly continue with this, and I will also begin the task of reparing my reel to reel recorder that FedEx was so kind as to destroy.
The RPM Challenge was not in vain. I have written over a dozen songs, lyrically, and nearly half a dozen poems, all in the month of February. It is a great exercise in creativity, and please check my friends list and listen to Fae and Doug Hayman's work, seeing as they completed the Challenge, and have submitted excellent work.

I walked down to Alpha Cine this past Tuesday, paid my bill and retrieved my film, the two cartridges of Super 8 used for "The Pass". So, thats it! It's in my hands, and I will be viewing this film over the weekend.
Been feeling dragged down, physically, again! So this week is slow and I find myself struggling at times to hold an attention span of more than five minutes while exposed to the mindless daily drivel.
This said, it is about a thirty percent chance I will record tomorrow night for the RPM Challenge. The deadline is Noon, Saturday, and I haven't even registered. Not to say I will not try and will not succeed, but the chances are unlikely. I still have written a great deal of songs and poetry this month. That in itself is worth its weight.
So, the new short will soon begin its journey. And the chances for a new album are still pretty high. Cheers!

I finally got paid. This may not seem like much to everyone else, but to an atypical starving artist, this is a major development. I had been in a drought for a couple of weeks, and now I am free!
What does this mean? Well, I made a few important musical gear purchases, I ordered a part which will allow me to capture video and begin editing some work, and now I can have the film from "The Pass" developed. I still have a few scenes to shoot for "Water from the Mountain", so "The Pass" will receive treatment first. My plan is to have this film edited by the end of March.
So, tomorrow I am making my way to Alpha Cine, hopefully in time to speak with them about my processing needs. I should have the film by the weekend, and then the editing can begin. There are two things that will delay the finished product: we are traveling to Victoria this next weekend, and I may shoot the end scene again. I did not like my location in Bothell as much as I like the scene just outside of the Green Bean, where the film took place. I just received written permission from the photographer whose work appeared at the Green Bean and subsequently a scene of the film. All the proverbial ducks are in their rows.
The snow film just isn't going to happen, at least not with any snow! It is called "Spring in Winter", and I can either wait until next year or shoot it without snow. I have not decided.
February is also the month for the RPM Challenge (see my Top Friends), and I have new lyrics and poetry written...the next step is recording it! I have until Noon on March 1st.
There are other possibilities taking shape...helping a friend with his film projects, helping another friend with her editing project, and as I try my hand at music vids, I may be producing a full DVD of a local band. Busy, busy, busy!
I can't just stop there! I am finally taking a look at establishing Blue November Creations as a legal business entity, and I am also looking at Non-Profit status for the Film Festival and related ventures. It is going to be a busy week, but I am dreaming without borders, and for that, I am very happy! I will keep you posted on future endeavors. Cheers!

I know it has been quite some time, but the films are actually coming! I say definitely before midyear but more than likely well before that. These are [definitely] the films you will see:
Adam and Yvette (2003)
The Lightswitch Fades (2004)
Colorswitch (2005)
Stay tuned for more, and I will keep you posted...
